Swift action by Bengaluru Police ensured the safe return of a four-year-old child who was accidentally left asleep inside a cab after a couple failed to notice that the vehicle had driven away without them. The incident took place on February 14 when the family was returning home from a trip and unknowingly exited the car while the child remained asleep inside.
Realising moments later that their child was missing, the panicked parents immediately contacted the Namma 112 emergency helpline, which provides rapid assistance for police, fire, and medical emergencies. They informed authorities about the situation, prompting an immediate response. Police officials reached the location within two minutes and began efforts to trace the vehicle using its registration details and live location tracking.
After identifying the cab, officers quickly contacted the driver and instructed him to return to the couple’s apartment with the child. The driver confirmed that the child was safely inside the vehicle and complied with the instructions, reaching the residence within about an hour and handing the child back to the relieved parents without any harm.
Following the incident, police counselled the couple and advised them to exercise greater caution to avoid similar situations in the future. Authorities emphasised the importance of remaining attentive, particularly when travelling with young children.
The episode later went viral on social media, drawing mixed reactions from users. While many praised the Bengaluru Police for their prompt and efficient response, others criticised the parents for negligence and questioned how the child could have been left behind unnoticed. The incident sparked wider discussions online about parental responsibility and the role of emergency services in preventing potential tragedies.
