Video: A Gujarati guy died from burns following a failed stunt during the Shivratri procession

A Maha Shivratri procession in Gujarat’s Dahod district turned tragic after a fire stunt performed during a Shiv Yatra went out of control, resulting in the death of a devotee and causing panic among hundreds of spectators gathered for the religious event. The incident occurred during the Garbada Shiv Yatra, where a daredevil performance reportedly triggered chaos and a stampede-like situation.

According to local reports, a performer participating in the procession allegedly poured petrol on himself and set himself ablaze as part of a dramatic stunt. However, the flames quickly spread beyond control, escalating into a dangerous situation within seconds. The uncontrolled fire caught nearby spectators off guard, leaving little time for people standing close to react or move away safely.

Ramanbhai Rathod, who was present near the performer at the time, was engulfed by the flames during the incident. Eyewitnesses said the fire intensified suddenly, creating confusion and fear among the crowd. Videos that later surfaced on social media show spectators filming the performance moments before panic erupted as the blaze spread rapidly through the area.

Amid the chaos, Rathod sustained severe burn injuries and was immediately taken to a private hospital in Dahod for treatment. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries due to the extent of burns suffered. The incident has left residents of Garbada and nearby areas shocked and grieving.

The tragedy has also raised serious questions about safety arrangements and oversight during large public gatherings, particularly regarding high-risk performances conducted in crowded spaces. Many locals have questioned whether organisers had obtained proper permissions and whether adequate precautions were in place to prevent such an accident.

Authorities have yet to issue a detailed statement clarifying the circumstances surrounding the stunt or confirming whether regulatory approvals were granted for the act. An inquiry into the incident is expected as officials examine accountability and safety lapses linked to the fatal mishap.
