A case initially treated as an unnatural death in Maharashtra’s Chandrapur has now been uncovered as a murder, with investigators revealing a conspiracy involving the victim’s own daughter and her partner.
The incident dates back to April 2023, when Head Constable Jayant Ballawar died after suddenly falling ill while on duty. At the time, the case was closed as an unnatural death based on preliminary findings and statements given by family members.
Nearly three years later, the case took a dramatic turn after new disclosures emerged. Police arrested Arya Ballawar, her partner Ashish Shedmake, and another accused, while a minor has been detained in connection with the crime. Notably, the conspiracy came to light after Ashish himself approached authorities and confessed details of the plan.
According to investigators, the motive stemmed from the father’s objection to the relationship between Arya and Ashish. It is alleged that Ashish arranged poison with the help of a minor and another accomplice, after which Arya mixed it into a milkshake and gave it to her father on the day of the incident.
After consuming the drink, Jayant Ballawar reportedly went to work, where his condition deteriorated rapidly. He was taken to a hospital but was declared dead shortly after.
Police believe the matter remained undiscovered earlier due to misleading statements and a lack of suspicion at the time. The recent confession, reportedly triggered by a personal dispute between the accused, led to the reopening of the case.
Authorities have now registered charges including murder, criminal conspiracy, giving false information, and common intention. Investigations are ongoing as officials examine further evidence and the exact sequence of events.
