At a Karnataka hostel, a class 9 student with a rod goes on the rampage and murders a classmate

A violent incident was reported late Sunday night at a school hostel in Karnataka’s Ballari district, where a Class 9 student allegedly attacked fellow students, resulting in one death and injuries to seven others. According to police, the accused student carried out the assault inside the hostel premises and later fled, prompting an intensive search operation.

Officials said the incident took place at Gurukul International School following a minor dispute among students. The accused allegedly used an iron bed rod to assault hostel inmates. One student succumbed to severe injuries sustained during the attack, while seven others were wounded. The school management described the incident as an iron rod assault; however, the victim’s family disputed this version, alleging that the student had been stabbed with a knife and raising questions about the accuracy of the school’s account.

Preliminary findings indicate that the attack occurred after dinner hours while students were asleep in the hostel. The accused is suspected to have struck multiple students with the rod and reportedly assaulted the hostel warden as well before escaping from the scene.

The injured students were immediately taken for medical care at the Vijayanagara Institute of Medical Sciences in Ballari. Police said several of the injured remain in serious condition and are undergoing treatment.

The victim’s parents, expressing deep grief, alleged that the accused may have been addicted to drugs and held the school administration accountable for lapses in safety and supervision. They questioned how a minor could execute such a serious assault within a residential school facility.

Police have launched a manhunt to trace and apprehend the accused student. Authorities confirmed that a detailed investigation is in progress to establish the exact sequence of events and responsibilities.
