Following Venkatesh Prasad's meeting with the government, Karnataka MLAs receive free IPL tickets and a complete stand

A dispute over IPL tickets involving Karnataka legislators appears to have been resolved, with MLAs now set to receive complimentary passes for matches at M Chinnaswamy Stadium after initially expressing strong dissatisfaction.

The controversy began when several MLAs objected to not being given free tickets for the opening match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad, stating that they should not be required to purchase tickets or stand in queues. Some legislators also cited their “VIP” status while demanding preferential access.

Following the backlash, Venkatesh Prasad, who is currently associated with the state cricket body, met Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and extended an official invitation for the match. After this meeting, an arrangement was reached under which legislators are expected to receive free tickets.

According to sources, MLAs may also be allocated a separate stand in the stadium and provided with multiple passes for upcoming matches. Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar stated that while earlier provisions allowed one ticket per representative, efforts were made to secure at least two tickets so that family members could accompany them.

The issue drew political reactions as well. Tejasvi Surya criticised the development, questioning the expectation of special treatment and highlighting concerns over entitlement within the political class.

The episode has sparked a broader debate around privilege, access, and the role of public representatives, even as the immediate dispute over ticket allocation appears to have been settled.
