A disturbing case has emerged from Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district, where the semi-decomposed body of a 45-year-old woman was discovered hidden inside a bed box in her home, raising serious concerns of a planned murder. The incident came to light after her children, unable to contact her for nearly a week, forced open the locked house and made the grim discovery.
The victim, Mamta Ahirwar, who worked as a professional dancer at weddings and fairs, was found inside her residence in the Sahodra Rai ward. According to police, her body had been concealed in a storage compartment within the bed, indicating an attempt to hide the crime.
Her children, Dev and Muskan, had been staying in Vidisha with their elder sister for around ten days while searching for employment. They reported that they had not been able to reach their mother since April 5, as her phone remained switched off throughout that period. Concerned by the lack of communication, they returned home, only to find the main door locked from the outside.
With the help of neighbours, they broke open the door and entered the house, where a strong foul smell immediately raised suspicion. Upon searching the premises, they opened the bed box and discovered their mother’s decomposed body inside, confirming their worst fears.
Mamta Ahirwar had been living alone and was widowed for nearly 15 years. Police officials have stated that the case is being treated as a murder, although the identity of the accused and the motive behind the crime remain unknown at this stage.
Authorities have conducted an autopsy, and a preliminary post-mortem report is expected to provide further clarity on the cause and timing of death. Investigators are currently examining key aspects, including the locked condition of the house and the victim’s last known interactions, in an effort to reconstruct the sequence of events and identify those responsible.
