A private bus travelling from Bilaspur to Mandi overturned in Himachal Pradesh's Mandi district on Sunday, injuring 17 passengers. The accident occurred near Bhawana village in the Sundernagar subdivision, prompting local residents to launch an immediate rescue operation before the injured were taken to hospital.
The bus, operated by Priyanka Travels, was on its scheduled route when the driver reportedly lost control near Bhawana Chowk, causing the vehicle to overturn and roll down the roadside.
Residents who witnessed the accident quickly rescued passengers trapped inside the damaged bus and transported the injured to Civil Hospital Sundernagar in private vehicles.
All 17 injured passengers were admitted to Civil Hospital Sundernagar for treatment. While some were discharged after receiving first aid, others remain under medical observation and continue to receive treatment.
Confirming the incident, Sundernagar Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Amar Negi said the district administration was providing all necessary assistance to the injured.
He also urged motorists to exercise extra caution during the ongoing monsoon season.
"We are providing every possible assistance to the injured. As it is the monsoon season, people and vehicle drivers should remain cautious and drive carefully," he said.
Sundernagar MLA Rakesh Jamwal visited Civil Hospital Sundernagar to meet the injured passengers, enquire about their condition and wish them a speedy recovery. He also interacted with hospital authorities during his visit.
Police from Sundernagar police station have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident.
Officials are examining the circumstances under which the bus lost control near Bhawana Chowk. The exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined.
