Actor Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar franchise has earned more than Rs 3,100 crore worldwide, but the latest film's release in Japan has opened to a disappointing response at the box office. Despite a wide release across nearly 80 screens, the action drama attracted only around 900 viewers on its opening day, marking a subdued start in the country.
The film was released in Japanese theatres on July 10. According to trade reports, it failed to secure a place among Japan's top 25 films on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, indicating limited audience traction during its opening weekend.
The opening-day figures reflected the slow response. By 2 pm, the film had sold 449 tickets across 57 locations. Even after expanding to nearly 80 locations later in the day, total admissions reached only around 900, highlighting weak footfall.
With only about 900 tickets sold on its opening day, Dhurandhar fell short of entering the list of the top 10 highest-opening Indian films in Japan. The final spot on that list is currently held by Tiger 3, which recorded 1,300 admissions on its first day. Pushpa 2 had also previously missed the same milestone.
RRR remains the biggest Indian opener in Japan with 8,230 admissions on day one. It is followed by Saaho, Kalki 2898 AD, Pathaan, Salaar, Jawan, Rangasthalam, Devara, Baahubali 2 and Tiger 3.
Despite the disappointing Japanese debut, the Dhurandhar franchise has been a major commercial success globally. Dhurandhar: The Revenge, the second instalment, became the second highest-grossing Indian film of all time after Dangal, earning Rs 1,813 crore worldwide.
The first Dhurandhar, released in December 2025, was also a blockbuster, collecting more than Rs 1,307 crore globally. Together, the two films have grossed over Rs 3,100 crore worldwide.
The Dhurandhar films are written and directed by Aditya Dhar and produced by Lokesh Dhar and Jyoti Deshpande under the banners of Jio Studios and B62 Studios.
The franchise features Ranveer Singh alongside Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, R. Madhavan, Sara Arjun, Rakesh Bedi, Gaurav Gera, Danish Pandor and others.
