Prior to purchasing tickets for The Odyssey, read our guide on IMAX movie formats

Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey was filmed entirely using IMAX cameras, but not every premium theatre offers the same viewing experience. Depending on the format you choose, the screen size, aspect ratio, image quality, and even the amount of the picture you see can vary.

To help audiences choose, the film's official website has released a guide explaining the available formats—including IMAX 70mm, IMAX with Laser, Dolby Cinema, 70mm film, 35mm, and Premium Large Format (PLF). It also features format-specific trailers that let viewers compare framing, composition, and aspect ratios before booking tickets.

IMAX 70mm

IMAX 70mm is the ultimate way to watch The Odyssey, presenting the film in Christopher Nolan's preferred 1.43:1 expanded aspect ratio and showing the entire image captured by the camera.

Using the largest and highest-resolution film format available, it delivers exceptional detail on floor-to-ceiling IMAX screens for the most immersive experience. However, there are only 41 IMAX 70mm theatres worldwide, and none are in India.

IMAX with Laser

Most IMAX theatres will screen the film in the 1.90:1 expanded aspect ratio, while select IMAX with Laser venues will offer the taller 1.43:1 version.

Although it doesn't display the full image like IMAX 70mm, it still shows more of the frame than standard cinemas and remains one of the best premium viewing options available in India.

70mm Film

Traditional 70mm film offers significantly higher resolution than standard digital projection and is presented in a 2.20:1 aspect ratio.

While it doesn't display as much image vertically as IMAX 70mm, it delivers outstanding sharpness along with the rich colours and texture associated with analogue film.

35mm Film

The classic 35mm format presents the film in a 2.39:1 widescreen aspect ratio using traditional film projection.

It offers the familiar cinematic experience with rich analogue colours but shows less of the image at the top and bottom compared to IMAX formats.

Dolby Cinema

Dolby Cinema uses Dolby Vision laser projection to deliver superior brightness, contrast, and colour accuracy.

Rather than providing a taller image, its main advantage lies in enhanced picture quality, deeper blacks, and more vibrant colours. Depending on the auditorium, the film will be shown in either 2.39:1 or 1.85:1 aspect ratio.

Premium Large Format (PLF)

PLF theatres feature larger screens and advanced laser projection systems for a more immersive experience than standard cinemas.

The film will be presented in either 2.39:1 or 1.85:1 aspect ratio, depending on the theatre. While PLF offers bigger screens, it does not include IMAX's expanded image.

The Odyssey released in theatres on July 17. Audiences can visit the film's official website to compare trailers across different formats and better understand the viewing experience before booking tickets.
