A 32-year-old man in Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi sustained fractures in both legs after jumping into a dam from a height of nearly 30 feet while attempting a stunt for a social media reel.
Pushpendra Kumar Manouria had gone to the Pahuj Dam area with his friends on Sunday evening. As his friends recorded the stunt, he climbed over a safety railing at a viewpoint before jumping into the water.
A video of the incident has since gone viral, showing Pushpendra crossing the railing while his friends filmed him. Just before he jumped, one of them could be heard jokingly saying, “God bless your soul.”
The stunt took a dangerous turn when Pushpendra landed on a rocky surface beneath the water. The impact left him with fractures in both legs.
Unable to stand or walk after the fall, Pushpendra struggled to get out of the water. He eventually used his hands to move himself and grabbed a rod, using it to pull himself towards safety. Bystanders later helped him out of the water.
Police reached the location after receiving information about the accident, following which Pushpendra was taken to a private hospital. His family was also informed and arrived at the hospital.
Doctors operated on one of his legs and inserted two rods due to the seriousness of the injury. Surgery is also expected to be performed on his other leg.
Recalling the incident, Pushpendra said he had attempted stunts at several locations in the past and thought he would be able to pull this one off as well. However, he did not realise that the water was shallow at the spot where he jumped.
He spent some time in the water after being injured before managing to make his way out with the help of a rod and his friends.
Pushpendra has now acknowledged the dangers of attempting such stunts for social media. “I will never perform such a stunt again,” he said.
