The teaser trailer for the upcoming Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, offers a first look at the latest adaptation of the Wizarding World. The HBO series will revisit JK Rowling’s books individually, starting with Philosopher’s Stone.
The trailer introduces Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, who begins his magical journey to Hogwarts alongside Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger. The cast also includes John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.
Running for two minutes and 37 seconds, the teaser shows Harry, Ron and Hermione arriving at Hogwarts and being sorted into Gryffindor. It also offers glimpses of their lives at the school, from attending Herbology and Potions classes to meeting Dumbledore, Snape, McGonagall and Hagrid, as well as attempting to join the Quidditch team. Their adventures soon lead them toward the mystery surrounding the Philosopher’s Stone.
The trailer also previews several memorable moments from the story, including the trio confronting a mountain troll inside a Hogwarts bathroom, taking part in a dangerous giant chess match and encountering both the Invisibility Cloak and the Mirror of Erised.
The ensemble cast further features Luke Thallon, Paul Whitehouse, Bertie Carvel, Johnny Flynn, Bel Powley, Daniel Rigby, Katherine Parkinson, Warwick Davis and Lox Pratt, who plays Draco Malfoy.
Based on Rowling’s celebrated fantasy novels, the HBO adaptation is written and executive produced by Francesca Gardiner, while Mark Mylod will direct multiple episodes. HBO is producing the series in collaboration with Bronte Film and TV and Warner Bros Television. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts and Heyday Films’ David Heyman are also serving as executive producers.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is scheduled to premiere on HBO in the United States this Christmas. In India, viewers will be able to stream the series on JioHotstar.
